Girls – Punky Kiss LP

Tōkyō’s cast band „Girls“ are another great example of what happens when music biz execs try to jump on the hype train, which had come to Japan in the form of the Runaways’ touring the nation and the first releases of punk rock. Punky Kiss from 1977 was The Girls’ second LP, and just like their first LP „Noraneko“ it didn’t really have much punk rock on it. Though it’s mostly covers and the music is „only“ a mix of glam, hard rock, pop rock and disco funk, there’s fun and enjoyable stuff on it. The stand out track is definitely their cover of Sheena Is A Punk Rocker, played in a disco funk version, which is the wildest shit I ever heard (and it was also the main reason I bought this record).

They’re going for the blues content to go-go!
