Systematic Death – Systema 天 12“

Systema Ten (天 meaning heaven and being pronounced like ten) from 2017… Is. The. Bomb! It’s just amazing when a band that’s been around for 30+ years still manages to absolutely top themselves. Systema 天 is a bit different in style from much of the rest of Systematic Death’s output, because it’s less straightforward thrash and there’s some wilder, more rocking guitar playing (like on the opener Red Shoes). The songs are still short and crazy fast, the band is scarily tight, and the production has a lot of punch. The six songs on this single sided 12“ clock in at 8:44 minutes, and there’s silk screened artwork by Sugi (who also did the cover) on the blank side.

Oh shit, this is so good!

Systematic Death – Systemania Volume 1 & 2

If you want what’s essentially an all-of 80s’ Systematic Death, look no further than the double albums Systemania Vol. 1 and 2. These records originally came out in 2007 as CDs on the japanese Fade In Records, the vinyl versions were licensed in 2008 by Partners In Crime.

You’ll get their first demo tape, the Systema Flexi 7“ plus session outtakes, the tracks off the Hold Up Omnibus 8“ and the Systema 2 Cassette on Systemania Vol. 1.

The there’s the Flash Back 7“ (Systema 3), an unreleased track for a planned AA Omnibus, the tracks off Thrash Til Death, the Final Insider 12“, the songs off My Meat’s Your Poison and the Virus Compilation, the Stimulate Cassette and the Step 7“ on Systemania Vol. 2.

Systematic Death – Flash Back 7″

Do I really have to come up with a blurb praising this classic piece of manic, low-fi thrash? Released in 1986, this 7″ originally came in a big, printed bag. My copy came without the bag, so it’s either a later release or the bag got lost (NOOO!). I had already posted Flash Back on this bootleg compilation. The sound quality on the original is better and less muddy.

Systema 3!

v.a. My Meat’s Your Poison LP

The My Meat’s Your Poison compilation from 1987 is nothing but classic high-speed thrash from start to finish. I’m not going to waste your and my time describing every single band, after all I’ve already posted releases by all of them: Outo, Chicken Bowels (misspelled on the cover as „Chiken Bowels“), Systematic Death, Gudon, S.O.B. and Lip Cream, they all rule! Still, S.O.B.’s hilarious and over the top cover of Blitzkrieg Bop deserves to be mentioned separately.

Sadly my copy of this record has no lyric sheet.

Systematic Death – Final Insider 12″

Final Insider from 1987 is Systematic Death’s first 12″ release. I have no idea how they do it, but even though they never changed or even varied their style in the 30+ years of their existance, they never grew boring. All of their releases I know are full of tight, powerful, thrashing insanity!

That sound? Quality!

v.a. Hikashibou – A Japanese Compilation LP

If you’re going to release a bootleg compilation LP of 7″es, why name it after one further ep (Gudon‘s 卑下志望 7″) that you’re not going to include? Anyway, this comp has Ghoul’s first and second 7″ in all their awesomeness. Just as high on the awesomeness scale is the Gastunk’s self titled 7″ from 1985. Although it’s not yet as hard-rockin’ as Mr Gazime, it’s got melodic and metallic thrashers that surely made all these NWOBHM dudes swear off hairspray forever out of sheer envy. Last is Systematic Death’s “Flash Back” 7″ from 1986 which definitely breaks the records in velocity, thrashing wildness and underproduction on this record.

卑下志望!

v.a. Hold Up Omnibus 8″

The Hold Up Omnibus 8″ is a compilation of live recordings with Systematic Death, Ghoul, The Clay and Gastunk. The tracks by Systematic Death are all available as studio versions on different 7″es and compilations, as is one song by Ghoul. The Gastunk songs are (as far as I know) otherwise unreleased, just like all the songs by The Clay. Sadly the recording quality is mostly mediocre, but The Clay are absolutely great on this record. Really primitive, powerful stompers of straightforward political hardcore.

8 inches of noise!

v.a. Thrash Til Death LP

With Lip Cream, Systematic Death, Outo and Gauze this compilation/4-way split is like a who’s who of japanese mid-eighties thrash bands. Even though I’m not that big a Lip Cream fan, this whole record is completely chaotic, high-speed thrash & burn madness, with some of the best tracks these bands ever recorded. Hell yeah! This version is the US-release on Pusmort Records, and sadly came without an insert.

Thank you, Brilliant Naoki!
