The Mods, founded around 1973 and part of the Mentai Rock scene, were one of Japan’s very first bands to play punk rock. As with many bands who were around for some time before punk, The Mods didn’t quite turn into a pure punk group. It’s probably more fitting to say they were influenced into toughening up their sound and playing wilder music than before. I have no idea why it took them so long to actually release any music, after all their debut LP Fight Or Flight on the major Epic only ever came out in 1981. The music on this LP is more like punked up rock’n’roll, not unlike The Rockers‘ debut LP from the year before (in contrast to e.g. Anarchy’s debut which sounds more like punk with a lot of rock’n’roll thrown in to my ears). Also GISM’s Sakevi didn’t seem to like them, according to the Outsider compilation’s graphics, haha…
