This 12“ single from 1989 was Kokushoku Elegy’s final vinyl release. The A-side Kamigami No Reisu (race of the gods) is a strong, melancholic new wave/gothic rock song with a very breezy guitar; the B-Side Niji To Hebi No Burūsu (blues of the rainbow and the snake) is a lot quieter, basically a dark 7 minute ballad. There may not be much punk rock on this 12“, but it’s still a great piece of music, made even greater by singer Kyōko’s strong, beautiful voice.
黒色エレジー – ST 12″
Kokushoku Elegy (Black Elegy) released this record in 1988 as their second self-titled 12“. Their guitarist and bassist had previously played in the great Niku-Dan. Though Niku-Dan had not played standard punkrock either, and ventured into weirder, sometimes darker, and more post punk stuff too, Kokushoku Elegy’s style is a lot more gothic and new wave now, kinda comparable in style to G-Schmitt.
This way to four tracks of beautiful anguish and melancholy!
