v.a. Complete Death Live LP

This LP is a bootleg pressing of the 1989 VHS tape of live shows by Sqwad, Poison Arts, Tetsu Arei, Death Side, SxOxB, Final Bombs, Outo and Systematic Death; the LP only has Sqwad, Outo, SxOxB and Poison Arts, though. I mostly bought it for the Sqwad tracks, as it is presently the only vinyl of theirs available not counting their 1989 flexi Set Free Me Out Rock You Out. The sound quality is pretty good, so listening to these live recording is actually fun, although the video (especially Death Side’s AMAZING HAIR) is even better.

Get it!

v.a. Hang The Sucker Vol. 2 LP

Another truly monstrous late 80s japanese hardcore compilation. Hang The Sucker Vol. 2 came out in 1989 on Kagai Mousou records, which also did lots of Gudon, Chicken Bowels, Googol Plex, the My Meat’s Your Poison comp. Hang The Sucker Vol. 1 was a 7“ which came our the year before.

This comp starts out with 4 songs by Death Side which kill: superfast, tight, brutal (one is a re-recorded version of Stick And Hole off Smashing Odds Ness!!). Next are Gudon, also superfast and tight but with a somewhat subdued production. Half Years are up next with a style somewhat similar to Gudon. This again is not surprising since they most of their members played in Gudon at some time. Again: superfast and tight, with a clean and powerful production. Last are Mad Conflux who are the dirtiest band on this comp, with a style that reminds me a bit of Crück. Their guitarist Ori-Chan now has the difficult job of being the present Death Side guitarist, having to follow after Chelsea’s death; as far as I know he had been a guitar student of Chelsea’s.

But who is the sucker that should be hung?

v.a. Extraordinary? Nightmare Of Kyusyu Without Being Over 7”

No idea what the nightmare of Kyūshū is (as a heat sensitive wimp, to me it would be its climate), but these guys here claim it’s not over? This 7“ comp from 2015 has 6 tracks by six bands (Decide, Perverse, End Of Pollution, Crudia, Unequal Reality and ADA), with lots of thrash, crust and raw punk, mostly played at breakneck speed. The last track by ADA definitely stands out, with its slower pace, melodies and its style more like melancholy political hardcore.

Extraordinary!

v.a. 死国 Shikoku Raw Punk Compilation – 2004 – 7″

The title of this 7“ compilation pretty much says it all: a raw punk compilation, bands from Shikoku, released in 2004. Of course, the mighty Disclose are the best known band on this comp, but Micro Film, Godfree Ho (what a great name!), Circle Flex, Nonsense Human Project and Conga Fury are no slouches either. This is a raging comp, distorted, fuzzy and wild. Btw: the name Shikoku normally translates as four provinces. But the way it is written on this compilation translates as…

Land Of Death! Yeah!

v.a. Starving Dog Eats Master LP

Starving Dog Eats Master, released in 1991 on Bloodsucker records, another classic japanese compilation. Death Side (some of their best tracks on this album) and Nightmare need no further introduction, and Crück are another true gem (especially considering they only ever released compilation tracks). Kathabuta only released a 2×7“ flexi and a tape beside this, Warhead Junk had a split release with Gudon, and Bandit released two albums in the early nineties.

Get it while it’s hot!

v.a. Raw Punkz 7“

Now this is really cool little comp! All five bands (Raw Distractions, Persevere, Solpäätos, Vendetta! and Skizophrenia!) play wild, driving, simple and kind of catchy punk rock. Though none of them play raw punk in the sense of Confuse et. al., if you take the title to mean pure, unrefined punk, then you are spot on!

Yeah!

v.a. 東京ニューウエイヴ ’79 LP

Tōkyō New Wave ’79, the other one of the two classic, early compilations documenting Tōkyō’s punk and new wave scene of the late 70s. Compared to Tōkyō Rockers, New Wave has the less well known bands with Sex, Jisatsu, Pain, 8 ½ and Bolshie. Of these, only 8 ½ released anything else during their original existence, though the members of all the bands went on to play in loads and loads of other groups.

Sex, Suicide, Pain, 8 ½ and Bolshie. There you go.

v.a. Best Run Fast Vol. 2 7“

And yet another one by MCR Company! One track each by Sicilian Blood, MESS, Idora and DONDON. To me, Sicilian Blood are the winners on this comp: driving, powerful and almost catchy; MESS are not yet as weird as they would become, and deliver some vicious riffs; Idora’s song is a metallic dirge which turns wild in the end, and DONDON are the blunt instrument on this comp.

Run, you fuckers!

v.a. Fear LP

I have to admit I got his compilation mostly to get the rest of Danse Macabre’s vinyl output. All told this comp is pretty heavy shit. On side A, the Rapes (why the hell pick THAT as the name for your band?) are vicious crossover thrash, the songs by Griffin are more diverse, fast thrashing, mid-tempo rocking, and slower, heavy shit. On side B, Danse Macabre offer their own, unique take at heavy, menacing, downtempo darkness, (including a cover version of … Born To Be Wild?), while K.G.G.M. are the most punkrock group on this comp, doing a cover The Ramones’ I Don’t Care in japanese as Ōkina Osewa (they did more Ramones covers on their other records).
There’s also a CD-version of this comp which has more tracks by Rapes, K.G.G.M and Danse Macabre (is Think About Death the same version as on their 7“?).

There’s still too many of us…

v.a. Oi Of Japan LP

I’m still not really sure if posting this LP on my blog is really fitting, since most Oi! (with the necessary exceptions…) is not really my cup of tea, and I don’t know shit (with even fewer exceptions) about Oi! Of Japan. But then, AA Records was a classic and hugely relevant label in japanese punk and HC, so why not? Also at some time or other, thanks to band incest magic, some of the bands on this comp shared members with the likes of The Star Club, The Stalin, Bradbury/G-Zet and many more, so this record is not too off the mark for my blog.
The version I’ve got is not the original pressing on AA Records, but a european bootleg (from some time in the 90s maybe?).

Can I now go down the slippery slope and post some Discocks?
