Laughin’ Nose – Get The Glory 7“

Even though Ōsaka’s Laughin’ Nose later turned into some melodic/Oi!’ish/punk pathetique type band, their first 7“, released in 1983, is definite proof they were one of Japan’s seminal hardcore bands, and they were damn great at that! „Get The Glory“ has 6 tracks, 4 studio and 2 live. Of the studio tracks, the title track also appeared on Great Punk Hits in the same version, and a different version of one of the live tracks („No War“) had already been released on the Outsider compilation. The studio tracks are definitely among the early japanese hardcore greats: some mid tempo, some fast but not thrash, with a nasty, distorted production. The recording quality of the live songs is lo-fi and muddy, but the songs themselves are just as good as the studio tracks and it makes me wish they’d recorded them in the studio as well.

And now, get the glory that is Laughin’ Nose’s Get The Glory 7“!

Outo – S/T Bootleg LP

This relatively recent bootleg LP compiles quite a lot of Outo’s output: it’s got the tracks off the 正直者は馬鹿を見る 12“, the tracks off the compilations Hardcore Unlawful Assembly, Thrash Till Death and My Meat’s Your Poison, and four of the six tracks off their debut 7“ Many Question Poison Answer. The 7“ versions of UK and I Like Cola are missing, and I assume they were left off so the LP’s duration would not get too long and after all you’ve also got the Hardcore Unlawful Assembly versions . Still this is something that always annoys me about compilation albums, when tracks are missing of shuffled around unnecessarily. On the other hand we’re talking about a bootleg here…

The music’s still great, so…

…get it!

Auto-Mod – ST 7″

This 7“ was Auto-Mod’s debut from 1981. All in all they’re still a lot more punk on this record when compared to their later releases. This punkier attitude starts off with that fake phone conversation in the intro, in which singer Genet gets a call from Ronald Reagan and calls him a fuckin’ fascist, and is further shown in the song writing. Love Generation is a great off-beat punk with a moody verse and a bouncy chorus. The next song, “woman from the porn mag” is another great punk number, but the real monster is “Horror” on the b-side: it starts out with a slightly wrong organ rendition of Deutschland Über Alles as the background to Hitler’s speech to the german reichstag at the start of WWII, which then morphes into a pounding, somewhat atonal punk stomper, with some synth noise and a screeching sax, lasting over 8 minutes and only slightly shorter than this sentence.

Get it, you fuckers!
