v.a. Complete Death Live LP

This LP is a bootleg pressing of the 1989 VHS tape of live shows by Sqwad, Poison Arts, Tetsu Arei, Death Side, SxOxB, Final Bombs, Outo and Systematic Death; the LP only has Sqwad, Outo, SxOxB and Poison Arts, though. I mostly bought it for the Sqwad tracks, as it is presently the only vinyl of theirs available not counting their 1989 flexi Set Free Me Out Rock You Out. The sound quality is pretty good, so listening to these live recording is actually fun, although the video (especially Death Side’s AMAZING HAIR) is even better.

Outo – Many Question Poison Answer 7“

Outo’s first 7“ from 1984 was another defining release of early japanese rawpunk, in a league with the Kyūshū crazies of Confuse, Gai or ジーク・ハイル. Many of what would later become the typical ingredients of rawpunk are there: vaccum cleaner guitar, the riffs being carried by the bass because the guitar is too distorted to recognize the chords, growled vocals; only the drumming is not yet as hyperactive as with some of the other bands, but it would become crazy as hell by the time of „Half Wit Life“. Also the cover artwork and the gargled Frog Song show that Outo were not a totally serious band but really liked goofing around. Two tracks (UK and the classic I Like Cola) from this 7“ would be re-recorded for Hardcore Unlawful Assembly; Cola once again for A Farewell To Arms. Later, Outo would change their style to more complex US inspired hardcore, in which they were just as good.

Gargle Kalinka for me!

v.a. My Meat’s Your Poison LP

The My Meat’s Your Poison compilation from 1987 is nothing but classic high-speed thrash from start to finish. I’m not going to waste your and my time describing every single band, after all I’ve already posted releases by all of them: Outo, Chicken Bowels (misspelled on the cover as „Chiken Bowels“), Systematic Death, Gudon, S.O.B. and Lip Cream, they all rule! Still, S.O.B.’s hilarious and over the top cover of Blitzkrieg Bop deserves to be mentioned separately.

Sadly my copy of this record has no lyric sheet.

Outo – 正直者は馬鹿を見る 12″

正直者は馬鹿を見る is Outo’s only 12″, released in 1987 as a 45rpm ep. Its 10 tracks are insane USHC-influenced high speed thrashers with some cool rudimentary melodies. This version here is a bootleg on 大阪 Records, which also contains their tracks from the Thrash Till Death Compilation LP and Outo’s No Way Out 7″. Btw. Outo means vomit. Great name, great music!

Honesty doesn’t pay…

v.a. Hardcore Unlawful Assembly LP

This compilation LP from 1984 is something of a misnomer, since there’s quite a lot of non-hardcore on it: Cobra, Laughin’ Nose (absolute unlistenable and unbearable lyrics on this release) and Baws are more Oi!/punk than hardcore. The rest are real heavy weights, though: Zouo were the darkest band in japanese hardcore, Lip Cream deliver heavy thrash, Outo are pure distortion, Mobs play dark, somewhat melodic mid-tempo hardcore and GISM are pure evil (as usual)!

I thought this was a riotous assembly?

v.a. A Farewell To Arms LP

This compilation was originally released in 1986 with cover artwork featuring the Atomic Bomb Dome, but this here is the 1988 version on Nuclear Blast. Lipcream, Outo, Gauze and The Execute are featured with great thrash, Ghoul and Gastunk are more metallic. I especially love the tracks by Ghoul and Gauze.

I like Cola!

v.a. Thrash Til Death LP

With Lip Cream, Systematic Death, Outo and Gauze this compilation/4-way split is like a who’s who of japanese mid-eighties thrash bands. Even though I’m not that big a Lip Cream fan, this whole record is completely chaotic, high-speed thrash & burn madness, with some of the best tracks these bands ever recorded. Hell yeah! This version is the US-release on Pusmort Records, and sadly came without an insert.

Thank you, Brilliant Naoki!
